I was so excited for this supercross season to get underway. This year was supposed to be one of the most competitive seasons so far in supercross history. But, we are already a little more than halfway through the season and three of the four top runners are out with injuries. Ryan Villopoto has one of the biggest points lead ever seen in supercross, and I feel like that lead will continue to grow as he wins more and more races.
The rest of the racers are not as fast as the main front runners such as Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, James Stewart, and Chad Reed. With three of those four racers out Ryan Villopoto is going to keep winning week in and week out. The other racers, that are still healthy, can not keep up with the blistering pace of Ryan Villopoto. The rest of the field is around a second a lap slower than Villopoto, and after twenty laps those seconds can really add up.
Now Villopoto will have one of the least stressful championships ever, and there is no doubt in my mind that he will win this championship. He may have a chance to win it with three or four races left to go. This season might not have been that exciting the whole way through, but it started out as the most competitive that I have ever seen.
Without Dungey, Stewart, and Reed I think that nobody else even has a prayer of beating Villopoto. Like you said he will probably clinch the championship with a few races left to go.
